Mechanical harvesting debuted on the vast timberlands of northern Maine, but over the last 20 years or so feller bunchers, in-woods processors, forwarders, stationary delimbing processing systems and chippers havebecome common on the smaller woodlots of southern Maine. They're effiicient, safer to run and operated skillfully can be easier on the trees and the land than a traditional chainsaw-cable skidder operation.
